At the top 2 bones in the neck is a group of nerves that control muscles and glands in the head. Some of these nerves enter the skull right at the first bone of the neck and they control the size of blood vessels in the head and eyes. 

If, for whatever reason,  the muscles and bones of the neck get "stuck", it puts pressure on the nerves. This leads to constriction of the blood vessels in the head and dilation of the pupils, which accounts for the light sensativity many migraine sufferers experience. Ever notice when you get a headache it usually comes with a stiff neck and tight muscles?
